Cover Letter Tips

Cover letters are an essential part of the job application process. Don’t let statistics that report most cover letters are never read convince you not to write one. If you are submitting your application online, . your cover letter may be called a ‘message’ or ‘other information.’

The purpose of your message or note with additional information is to accompany your resume with an introduction and extra insights which aren’t usually included in a resume.

For example, I no longer include information about jobs predating 2000. Yet I’ve had opportunities where experience gained before 2000 has the power to attract the attention of an employer.

I applied for a custom candy wrapping job once with this line in the heart of my email. “If I could wrap gift boxes for two years without getting bored with the job, I don’t expect to get bored working at this job either.” That line landed the interview.
