9 LinkedIn Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make

Send to Kindle

We all make mistakes as we learn new skills. I’ve always appreciated it when someone warns me before I make a mistake that could hurt my career.

Here are nine LinkedIn mistakes you can avoid as you become a whiz at job search social media strategies.

1. Don’t ignore your profile. Many LinkedIn users breath a sign of relief once they’ve completed their profile, and then they let it just sit there. As things change, update your profile. Continue to look for new connections. If you blog on WordPress, automatically update your profile page by using the WordPress plugin for LinkedIn.

If you are actively searching for a job, you should sign in to LinkedIn and post an update every time you sign in. If you are currently employed, it’s still a good idea to check out your LinkedIn profile once a week. Leave a status update every time you log in.

LinkedIn is actively encouraging members to follow thought leaders in different fields. This can be an opportunity to post thoughtful comments and show your own thought leadership.
